Early Walk at Mogadore Reservoir

Chuck got up at 10 til 6 this morning with me and went for a walk at Mogadore Reservoir. It was a bit too windy for sharpness, but nice dramatic clouds and water. Used the circular polarizer on these - don't think I've quite got the hange of it yet.

What Happens When

You set your phone for 5:45 pm instead of am?

You miss the CVPS photowalk and have no pretty waterfall and fallen leaves photos to post.

So these will have to do for now. Taken last Friday near the Boston Store on the Towpath.

5 Days in Vegas: SGIA 2010 October 11 - 15

Spent the week of October 11 in Las Vegas, working pretty much non-stop. Good show, just wish I had more time to play - go to Zion, Lake Mead or the Grand Canyon. Maybe next time!

Journaling: Very busy week - from 4 am Monday until 11:45 pm on Friday – at the SGIA trade show in Las Vegas. Installed graphics at the Convention Center after we arrived on Monday. Had dinner with Vickie and Tom at the hotel (the Las Vegas Hilton) Monday night. Every day started at 7:30 am with a breakfast meeting, ran through seminars, booth duty and customer meetings, and then collapse into bed. I only had my P&S, not that it mattered, and had about 20 minutes to spend on the net one night. Not a bad week, but I wish I had more time to be a tourist.

Burton Apple Butter Festival: 10/10/10

(Pages meant to be viewed side-by-side)

Gary & Marge, Regina, Chuck & I went to Burton on the 10th, for the Apple Butter Festival. It's held at the Century Village. We got there pretty early and had a chance to see mostly everything before it got too crowded. Beautiful day, sunny and warm - too warm to have hot apple cider or fritters, actually. Nice peaceful drive back home, too.

Text reads:
Burton Apple Butter Festival - 10 Things to Remember: 1. Gary, Marge, Regina, Chuck & me 2. Marge in the dunce cap 3. Giant fiberglass steer 4. Breakfast at Belle’s 5. Forgotten desktop 6. The dress makers 7. Blacksmiths 8. Apple cider 9. The Jail 10. Kites

Monday Evening: Firepond

The firepond at Promise Land. Used a Photoshop filter called "fresco" on this.

Larry's feeling better, but still far too thin.

Evening at Promise Land

Spent a fun Monday afternoon at the Drs, finding out that I have bronchitis and a sinus infection. But Larry needed his inhalers, so it was off to the barn. He is doing lots better, the coughing is gone, and he's feeling feisty.

This picture shows the warm, inviting light streaming from the barn door. I was happy, taking photos as darkness fell, knowing Larry was safe for now.

Funny how little things can change your mood completely.

The Kent Block: Destruction Underway

October 1, 2010:  Lots of construction in Kent this year. The Crain Avenue bridge is being replace (long overdue!), and the Kent block project has started. Almost all of the old buildings have been taken down, and most of the debris removed. Davey Tree, more retail, and some Kent State offices will occupy the building when done.Very cool that Kent is being revitalized - the city and University are also building an intermodal center (that would be a transportation hub to the rest of us), and the University is planning a new approach to the campus through downtown.

I shot these out the car window - Chuck was too sick (bronchitis) to take a walk around town.

Geogie & Me

Posted this picture on Facebook for a friend of ours who moved to Las Vegas. The three of us used to have lunch almost every Friday - a good end to the work week.

We miss you, Vickie!!

"31 Bugs" is Finally Done!

And here are the finished layouts:

The fly with the racing stripe eyes is my favorite.

What I’ve learned from my "31 Bugs" August & September Photography Project:

1. 31 bugs is a lot of bugs.

2. One good bug shot a day is, well, good. Two good bug shots, impossible, so far.

3. August is not a good bug month.

4. Cool mornings are best. Hot afternoons, forget it.

5. When you are not looking for bugs, they’re everywhere.

6. When you want bugs, all you get is skeeters.

7. My 70 – 300mm lens is hard to auto-focus on insects, and hard to focus manually.

8. I look like a predator to most bugs, so the 17 - 70 mm lens doesn’t always work.

9. Ants are the most numerous bugs on my property.

10. There are more varieties of spiders than anything else in my yard.

11. My ants are heavily into farming, mostly aphids, but also, unfortunately, scale insects on my citrus tree.

12. The ideal shutter speed/ISO ratio to stop bug motion eludes me. Unless the bug is asleep or cold.

13. Bees will let you get surprisingly close, but won’t stop moving to have their pictures taken.

14. Sunflowers attract all sorts of bugs and make a good background.
