April Outside: Finally Daffodils

Tete a Tete, mulch-splattered from the storm.

Ice Follies, my favorite daffodil. They're yellow and cream to start, fading to ivory.

Time to take photos of the garden beds, so I remember where to plant more bulbs next year.

Floating peacefully in a neighborhood pond. Didn't seem bothered at all when I stepped up to take her picture.

 

April Project: Outdoors

Th cold and snow are lingering entirely too long, so to help vanquish the winter blues, I'm doing a daily outdoor photo, maybe SLR, maybe iPhone. Just a little bit of outdoor cheerfulness as spring takes over northeastern Ohio.

This is my first post from Blogsy, another iPad app, and one of the few compatible with Blogger. What will it look like?

6: Kent's Black Squirrel in the Acorn Alley Plaza. Right in front of Popped! They make the best caramel corn!

Hot Air Balloon Landing!

Right in my backyard! I was on the phone with Chuck when I heard the unmistakable sound of a hot air balloon - really LOUD! It was right on top of the neighbor's house and coming in for a landing in the marsh behind my house. Here's what it looked like:

 

I had to run and get Gabe, the neighbor kid - you just can't miss this kind of thing!

 

Looks like there are five or six people in that little basket.

 

Scott from around the cul de sac came over, video cam running. In fact, the entire neighborhood turned out. This is pretty exciting stuff for us.

 

And this is what it looked like as they collapsed that giant balloon:

 

 

Then they flattened it, packed it into a big square bag, stuffed it and the basket into a little black trailer, and off they went to their next adventure. Or dinner, more likely.

Soggy Sunday

This was my backyard Sunday:

Looks a little dampish.

There's a marsh behind my house, part of Kent's stormwater control. It drains pretty fast, but the water's not supposed to come up this far.

Those poor sunflowers, all keeled over. Bet the bees were pretty annoyed. Spent Monday morning tying the stalks to the fence to keep them upright in the soggy soil. Now the birds can get at them.  The goldfinches love the seeds. See the perimeter defense - that's why I have plenty of tomatoes this year.

 

Note the high water mark on the shed. Dry inside, thankfully.

Armstrong Bearcats at Kent's Water Street Tavern

Lisa and Craig came down to see Armstrong Bearcats - great band, fun evening. Chuck and I wear both a little deaf after. Lisa and Craig brought ear plugs, definitely a good idea. Anyway, some shots from the evening. Had the ISO cranked up to 1250 + because it was really dark, probably should have pushed it up a bit more. Oh well, next time. 2/4

Last Batch of Picture the Holidays

The last batch of photos from Picture the Holidays. Days 26 and 27 are from the Rockefeller Greenhouse in Cleveland - it's kind of a tradition to visit the Greenhouse and the Botanical Garden on Boxing Day. The Botanical Garden was closed on Monday, so we missed it this year.

Pretty sure the 28th is missing because it involved me taking a picture of myself. That'll only happen under duress....

Forgot to drink my tiny bottle of Champagne on New Year's Eve, but it made a good prop here.

Kent Winter Market, nice light on these apples. The farmer's market is a good place to shoot food earlier in the morning. This basket of apples caught winter morning light from one of Lucky Penny Creamery's windows.

Kent Winter Market

We went to the Winter Market at Lucky Penny Creamery yesterday and bought dill bread, pecan- cranberry waffles and kale chips. The dill bread and cranberry waffles were delicious. The kale chips taste good, but the texture is odd - Chuck describes it as ashy. I think I'll try them crumbled over salad.

October, Little Bit of This, Little Bit of That

Working on some beachy Christmas ornaments. I have the right size drill bit to put holes in the tiny flip flops - but how to steady them while I'm drilling? 10/1

Love having wildlife in the backyard. Don't care so much for wildlife eating the back yard. Note the pair of hogs in the pot. They were joined by a third shortly after this shot, then Mama took over the whole pot for herself. 10/4

Dinner at Pufferbelly and a shot of the Star of the West mill in Kent. 10/5.

Still working on birdhouses. They'll be done by Christmas. Maybe. 10/6.
