April Outside: Zoar

Did a little side trip to Zoar before the photo workshop in Hocking Hills. Had lunch at a German restaurant, and took this photo of the footbridge over the Tusc and the remnants of the Ohio and Erie Canal.

Hard to believe the Army Corp of Engineers is considering letting Zoar drown instead of repairing the levee or reducing the height of the dam. Worth a side trip on your way down 77 to Amish country.

April Outside: Home and Away

Spent Monday evening (almost two weeks ago now!) laying mulch around the remnant of the rhodos I planted last year. Never ever have had a problem with deer eating the rhodos until now. They have buds, so perhaps they'll come back.

This was a pleasant surprise: the robin is nesting under my deck after a years' absence. She gets pretty annoyed when I work in the garden near her though.

And peonies, just starting. They're much taller now, but not leafing out yet.

Which reminds me: so much weeding, so little time!

April Outside: Sunday

Pretty cheerful day today - started with a mocha, then lunch with my brothers, a visit to Mom, shooting at St. Hubert's, a hike at Holden, and dinner with Chuck. Just about perfect!

Spotted this guy washing his dinner in a stream.

And two bird watchers pointed out this bittern in Buttonbush Bog at Holden.

April Outside: Photowalk

Saturday's Photowalk was to the Bath Rd. Heronry and the Wagner Daffodil Trail. This is one of the nesting trees - very close to the road, which is unusual for birds as shy as herons.

April Outside: Finally Daffodils

Tete a Tete, mulch-splattered from the storm.

Ice Follies, my favorite daffodil. They're yellow and cream to start, fading to ivory.

Time to take photos of the garden beds, so I remember where to plant more bulbs next year.

April Outside: Storm!

From Kent's Main Street bridge:

Aren't Spring thunderstorms wonderful?

April Outside: A Little Bit of Monday, a Little Bit of Tuesday

Buds are busting out all over!

The pond at my gym. You could almost believe it's not in the middle of an office park.

April Outside: Something's Blooming

Pettiti's Eagle Creek has drifts of spring flowers. The weather's still a little too erratic to think about planting anything outside, but it's still lovely to see flowers in bloom.

Back with Saturday's when I get some photos from Lakeview Cemetery processed.

April Outside on Friday

River Birch's peeling bark.

I used Snapseed to reduce the contrast on the right side so the focus is on the main trunk with its lichens and wildly peeling bark.

Swan: Outside in April

Floating peacefully in a neighborhood pond. Didn't seem bothered at all when I stepped up to take her picture.

The Goat: Outside in April

Dinner at the Goat last night. Very Kent, quirky, unusual food, and, sometimes, unusual customers. Kent Free Library is reflected in the glass. The new addition is visible in the photo. The tiny old building is to the left. It's now genealogy and meeting rooms. And a cafe.

iPhone, edited in PhotoShop Express. PSE is ok, but Snapseed is easier to use and more capable. PSE's frames lean more to the twee side, too.

Last Night's Sunset: Drama from My Deck

Quite chilly, but lovely sun and big, puffy clouds. iPhone and Snapseed. Google may be taking over the universe, but at least they're not messing with Nik's software. Although, I have to add "yet" in a sepulchral voice....

April Project: Outdoors

Th cold and snow are lingering entirely too long, so to help vanquish the winter blues, I'm doing a daily outdoor photo, maybe SLR, maybe iPhone. Just a little bit of outdoor cheerfulness as spring takes over northeastern Ohio.

Sunset from the main road in my neighborhood, edited in Snapseed - a very nice photo editing app for the iPad.

This is my first post from Blogsy, another iPad app, and one of the few compatible with Blogger. What will it look like?

Here goes...
