April 13, 2009: Cool Calender

A very cool calender I found at Don Drumm's gallery close to the University of Akron. Screen printed, one image per month. Bought one of the frames that show one picture and store a bunch more. Took a while to figure our how to shoot this without flare on the glass. Definitely want a more flexible flash!

April 12, 2009: Easter Sunday and a Gorgeous Heron

Love this shot - the silver fish, gorgeous plumage, and water ripples blurring into to the background. We were at the North Chagrin Reservation of the Lake County MetroParks. This guy was in a relatively small pond by the Nature Center. Herons are normally quite shy, but he seemed completely unfazed by all the humans out for a post-Easter-dinner stroll. D60, 70-300mm Sigma telephoto. A longer telephoto is on my wishlist, along with a flash.

April 10 and 11: 'Picotee' Unfurling

Saturday, both are open, the second not quite fully. White balance on the photo below is incandescent, with evening light and an overhead. The one above is auto, in daylight. I prefer the gold cast below, though color in the top photo is truer. Interesting that the petals are softly rounded as they open, and become narrower and more pointed.

Friday evening. First blossom is not quite fully open and the second is still a bud.

April 7 - Tax time!

April 6 - Daffodils blooming and peony buds in my front yard.

April 5 - Tree trunk in the woods at Promised Land Farm.

April 4 - Chuck and I at Jason and Lauren's wedding reception at the Betram Inn.

April 3 - A handsome - and lucky - toad in my driveway. He was hanging out under Chuck's car, and fortunately did not get run over when Chuck pulled out.

April 1 - Upper Falls, Old Man's Cave Gorge, Hocking Hills, Ohio. Another lovely waterfall.

April 1 - Cedar Falls at Hocking Hills, right after a rainfall. Beautiful!
